About 7 miles of river through quiet Illinois countryside. A flat-rate, one-way experience — all gear and shuttle included.
Book a Float TripKayaking, canoeing, or floating a tube down the Vermilion River offers a unique, personal experience. You'll be closer to nature and further from the hustle of everyday life. The river provides excellent opportunities for birdwatching, fishing, and simply unwinding.
All float trips include the vessel rental, paddle, personal flotation device (PFD), first aid kit, and safety training. Bring your own fishing gear, tackle, and Illinois fishing license if you want to fish.
On the day of your float, meet at the Play Park in Pontiac, where you'll park your vehicle. We'll finalize your rental, fit your PFD, then shuttle you out to the McDowell launch point. Consider completing your safety training in advance to speed things up.
The Play Park is the endpoint of the float, so your vehicle will be waiting for you when you finish. There is a large parking lot, but neither Vermilion River Adventures nor the City of Pontiac are responsible for your vehicle or any property left in it. Take your valuables with you or leave them at home.
We'll transport the vessels and all gear down to the water and help you safely launch. From there, it's completely up to you how you explore the river.
Have your own kayak, canoe, or float? The shuttle-only option gets you and your vessel to the McDowell launch point. The meeting point and return details are the same — you bring your own gear, and we transport you to the start. Unloading at the Play Park is not included.
